Help - All your questions answered

Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) gives advice on some common problems you might encounter. You'll find the answers to most questions here. But if you need further help, please contact us: info@andkicking.co.uk  But first, here's a snapshot of what you can do on andkicking.co.uk

I. Services & Functions

My Diary

My Diary is a snapshot of all the activities of the month in one view. In red are indicated the activities you are participating in. We can promise you: red will be the dominating colour of Your Diary very soon!

Find Activity

By searching for Activity, Date, Area and other criteria you'll soon find something to do. There's a whole range of sporting, social and cultural activities to search by.

Each activity has its own “Activity Profile”, giving you relevant information like Time, Venue, Required Number of Participants and Required Proficiency Levels.

The Activity Profile also tells you whether the Activity has been created by another member of andkicking, or by one of our Activity Groups.

Create Activity (Activity Profile)

As a member you can create – and organize – as many Activities (Activity Profiles) as you like, choose the number and kind of people you’d like to join in, and invite other members to join.

You can create public or private activities.

A public activity is searchable by all andkicking members, and all members can join in the activity (subject to your approval).

A private activity is not searchable by other members – only members that you specifically invite can join in.

The main elements of an Activity Profile are:

  • Activity Type
  • Activity Name
  • Practical information, like Location and Date
  • A short description - this the first thing other members will read, so it' s important to make it stand out and increase your chances of being invited to other activities.
  • The minimum and maximum number of participants
  • Activity Partners’ Profile
Find Activity Partners

You can search for Activity Partners by Type of Interest, Age, Area and other criteria, so you'll soon find people to join your activity or event.

Our Member Activity Preferences give you even more relevant information, like Proficiency Levels, Favorite Venues, Favorite Day and Time.

Groups
Find Activity Group

Easy searching by type of activity means you will soon find the activity groups you’d like to join.

Create Activity Group

An Activity Group is a group created by a member – called the Group Owner - and can have a limited or unlimited number of group members (depending on the Owner’s preferences).

An Activity Group's members can organise activities, whereby all members are automatically invited.

Simply start your own Activity Group, and invite other members to join. Our Group Communication Services, Group Events Calendars and Group Profiles are designed to encourage your Activity Group's members to regularly attend your group activities and create more of their own.

Group Profile

Each group has a Group Profile, compiled (and able to be edited) by the group’s Owner.

A Group Profile gives members relevant information about any particular Activity Group, such as the Activity Category, the group Owner, Group Members and the Group Activities.

The Group Profile also tells you whether it's a private or a public group.

Member who wish to join a ‘private’ group need to get explicit approval from the Group’s Owner.

Public groups are open to anyone – members wishing to join one simply click the 'join' tab on the Group Profile.

The main elements of a Group Profile are:

  • Activity Type
  • Group Name
  • A photo – ideally this is a photo you've uploaded yourself. If you choose not to upload a photo, andkicking will automatically display a photo that represents the Group’s Activity Type.
  • A short description - this is the first thing other members will read, so it's important to make it stand out and increase your chances of being invited to other activities.
  • Public or Private
My Groups

This page gives you an overview of all the groups of which you're a member (or the Owner). There's no limit to how many Activity Groups you can join or create.

To keep track of your Activity Groups, go to the Home Page and click on the 'Group' link. This takes you to the Group Page, where the “My Groups” link is.

Hot Deals

Members get special discounts on products and services posted on the site, either by us or by one of our business partners.

My Service Settings

You can ask us to notify you of new activities and/or new members. Members can be notified in real time or periodically, via email, message board and/or SMS.

Category Pages

From the left-hand navigation bar on the Home Page, you can go to one of three category pages: Sports, Arts and Performance or Lifestyle and Leisure.

These category pages give you a complete overview of all Members, Activities, Groups and Hot Deals in any specific category.

My Contacts

Your Contact List is your essential networking tool on andkicking. It gives you a complete overview of all your contacts. From here you can invite friends to your activities, or to join (one of) your activity groups.

To access My Contacts, you need to log in first.

My Invitations

My Invitations shows all activities that you've created, or been invited to.

It also gives you an overview of the onsite email messages you've sent or received.

Plus, My Invitations keeps track of all the invitations you've sent to and received from other members, activity groups and from andkicking itself.

You can view the invitations and messages you've received. Just click on the Invitation Name.

My Profile

The main elements of My Profile are:

  • Your photo (which you'll need to upload) - not that we think looks matter when you're wearing a scuba wetsuit; but a photo might help your Activity Partners recognize you at the boat shed when you meet up!
  • A short description - this is the first thing other members will read, so it's important to make it stand out and increase your chances of being invited to other activities.
  • Multiple choice information fields - for details like Age, Gender, Education, State, etc. This info is very useful to members in their searches, so it's a good idea to fill them in and increase your chances of coming up in their search results.
  • Activity Preferences – one of the keys to your success on andkicking. (See next section)
Activity Preferences

Members can create several Activity Preferences, one for each of your favourite activities.

This way, you can supply relevant info like ‘Favourite Venues’, ‘Proficiency Level’ and ‘Favorite Time/Date’. The Activity Preferences help andkicking – and its members - invite the right people to the right activity.

The main elements of your Activity Preferences are:

  • Favourite Activity – just select an activity from the drop-down menu.
  • Proficiency – you can tell members your level of proficiency for each activity. This is especially useful if you'd rather not play tennis against a top 10 ranked professional (Unless your name is Andre Agassi.) Of course, this makes more sense for some activities (e.g. tennis) than for others (e.g. dining).
  • Favourite Venue – for each of your favourite activities, you can tell other members your Favourite Venue.
  • Your Activity Profile is the key to your success on andkicking, so be sure to spend some time completing it.

II. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does andkicking work?

The easiest way to find out how we work is to join up and start your free trial! Or have a look at our site tour.

In a snapshot, out sites offer you a range of easy to use site tools to meet the people you like, at an activity you like! These activities are created by the members themselves, and are put up on the site for other members to join. Can be anything as simple as a night at the movies, or as elaborate as a treasure hunt weekend in the Blue Mountains. As a member you can:

  • Join in activities organised by other members (from sailing to bushwalking to wine tasting) or…
  • Create your own activity and invite other people to join you.
  • Join or create an activity group
  • Participate in forums and chat
  • Earn free subscriptions by creating activities or referring new members!
  • Or you can do all!

At andkicking you will be personally invited by the people you like, to join the activities you like. Best of all: you get to be invited because of who you are (and not because you're just another sales prospect of some social events organiser). The activity might be just a once-off - like meeting Sarah for a game of tennis next Wednesday. Or it could be an ongoing event – like the Wednesday Arvo Hit ‘n Giggle Tennis Tribe.

The key to letting people know what activities you’re interested in, is your personal Profile. Your profile also allows members to contact you through the website. They can send you a Message (“What standard of tennis do you play? I’m just a beginner”) , or an Invitation to join in their activity or activity group (“Join us for beginner’s doubles on Saturday mornings”).

What are the members like?

Our members are all all types of people, from all backgrounds and careers, and with all interests. They are discerning individuals who want more out of life than the everyday ‘hum drum.’ Most have neither the time nor the avenues they once had to meet interesting people, and many find they are amongst the few unattached people left in their circle of friends.

Members have joined andkicking for all kinds of reasons: to join activities and groups, to expand their social circles of friends or, why not, to find love and relationships.

Our members are 20s through 50s, with the greatest concentration being 30s and 40s. With a good-sized turnout at each activity, gravitating towards others of similar age range is easy.

Back to FAQ

Is it just for singles?

Of course not. andkicking.co.uk is for anybody and everybody... single or married, young or old, mum or dad, super hero or couch potato. The majority of members are single, but this is not a requirement. There are plenty of couples here (some have even met through a andkicking activity!). Even families are joining our activity club to have access to an ever growing range of members, activities and groups.

Back to FAQ

How much does it cost to become a member?

Nothing.

Although andkicking is an entirely free service now, we do intend to introduce a very small subscription fee soon. We will do so as soon as this is warranted by having reached a good sized membership and activity level.

andkicking does not intend to be a completely free website, for 2 simple reasons:

  • We need the financial resources to ensure that we can keep providing innovative services to a growing group of socially active site users;
  • Importantly, we want to keep out the jokers and the phoney member profiles. andkicking's wants to be authentic, local and credible - rare and valuable commodities in the age of pokes, cyber kisses and the tons of sleaze and phony member profiles dumped on us.

And the result? A lively social activity networking site where you get personally invited by real members to real events. Not because you fit profile of some marketing campaign or sales prospect, but simply because the organizer of the event enjoys your company. A site where there is little to do for people just out for some online entertainment (*).

Everybody can always earn a free subscription !

Even after we have introduced a subscription fee, you will keep the option of having access to all of andkicking's services for free. But you will have to earn it. Here's how you can earn a free subscription:

  • For every activity that you have created and held, and that has received a minimum of 3 ratings (!) from participating members, we will extend your subscription by an extra month.
  • For every 2 new members you refer to andkicking, we will extend your subscription by 1 month. Even if you have not yet subscribed, we will give you a free 1 month subscription for every 2 new members you refer to London's best social club!

(*) If it is just a free chat, dating or cyber networking site you’re after, we gladly recommend Facebook, Yahoo, MySpace or Msn. Some even let you look at pictures, send ‘winks’ or superpoke as many online friends as you like!
